Youth-Led Backpack Distribution

Project Description: This group was led by members of the Young Peoples Division (YPD) of Carey Temple A.M.E., who organized a backpack distribution project. The group members filled backpacks with school supplies that were tailored specifically to the needs of high schoolers in their community. When the backpacks were ready, the project group delivered them to the Gary Comer Youth Center, who then provided them to students.

"One goal of the Carey Temple A.M.E. Young Peoples Division was to boost the confidence of Gary Comer High School students by providing them with much needed supplies that will help them to finish the school year strongly. Completing the project has given the Carey Temple Youth a sense of value and pride by contributing positively to the community.... Community bonds were strengthened both within the Carey Temple YPD group and the Gary Comer high school community."
