Habitat Chicago breaks ground on 20-unit, affordable townhome development in West Pullman
Habitat for Humanity Chicago broke ground on its largest real estate development to date—a twenty-townhome project in the heart of the West Pullman neighborhood. Over 50 community, governmental, and corporate partner representatives attended the groundbreaking event, committing to long-term financial and social investment in West Pullman.
“Our partnership with Habitat for Humanity began nearly 30 years ago, and we are pleased to support this tremendous example of Habitat’s vital work,” Northern Trust's Chief Social Impact Officer Shana Hayes said. “Since our founding 135 years ago, Northern Trust has been proud to play a strong role in supporting our communities. Our work with Habitat for Humanity represents more than just building homes. It’s working together to build hope, strengthen communities, and foster a brighter future for families in need.”
21st Ward Alderman Ronnie Mosley continued, “This development by Habitat for Humanity Chicago is about building dreams, fostering stability, and continuing to create opportunities for homeownership, which has always been the fabric of this ward.”
Located across the street from the future 12-acre Morgan Park Commons, these new two-story townhomes will boast individual garages, two community green spaces, and three- and four-bedroom floor plans. Construction of the first block of four townhomes is expected to be completed in 2025.
“We are proud to deepen our investment in West Pullman through this 20-unit townhome project,” stated Jennifer Parks, Habitat Chicago’s Executive Director. “West Pullman has many incredible assets on which to build, and inviting 20 new homebuyers to invest in this community alongside other long-tenured homeowners creates a lasting impact both at an individual and neighborhood level.”
All townhome units will be sold by Habitat Chicago through their Affordable Homeownership Program, a program where qualified homebuyers receive financial and homeownership education and pay no more than 30% of their gross income on mortgage and home expenses.
